چکیده

Abstract SSM/I has been applied in derivation of liquid water and precipitation for many years. Due to the uncertainty in variance of surface emissivity and characters of precipitation, the comparison of rainfall retrieval with ground truth remains a controversial issue. In order to investigate this issue, data set for precipitation from stratus clouds over ocean area were collected for 5 years. Each data set is collocated with satellite observation and ground truth. Neural network is applied to estimate precipitation. Comparison between retrieved rain rate and surface ground truth was made. Based on the analysis, the wind speed does not appear to have close correlation with precipitation. Mean value of precipitation is consists with ground truth, but most of the heavy precipitations are not captured by the estimation. The best result is obtained by using all 7 channel observations and polarized corrected temperatures to estimate precipitation.

3D Modeling of Wind-Driven Circulation In The Northern Indian Ocean During Monsoon

Abstract The purpose of this research is to design and identify some of the natures and characteristics of high-resolution surface currents in the Northern Indian Ocean. The pattern of 3D circulation of the Wind-driven surface currents, Sea surface temperature (SST) and Sea Surface Salinity (SSS) distribution in the Northern Indian Ocean using The MIT general circulation model (MITgcm) with ho...

The Influence of an SST Front on a Heavy Rainfall Event over Coastal Taiwan during TiMREX

A long-lived heavy precipitation area was observed along the southwest coast of Taiwan from 13 to 18 June 2008 during the Terrain-Influenced Monsoon Rainfall Experiment (TiMREX). Rainfall amounts exceeded 500mm along portions of the coast, and the coastal plains experienced severe flooding. The precipitation systems were influenced by blocking effects, as the southerly moist monsoon flow imping...

Evaluation of the performance of the CMIP5 General Circulation Models in predicting the Indian Ocean Monsoon precipitation over south Sistan and Baluchestan, using the past hydrological changes in the region

1-Introduction Climate change refers to any significant change in the existing mean climatic conditions within a certain time period (Jana and Majumder, 2010; Giorgi, 2006). Earth's climate change through history has happened (Nakicenovic et al., 2000; Bytnerowicz et al., 2007). 2-Materials and methods In this study, daily precipitation and daily maximum (Tmax) and daily minimum (Tmin) tempera...

Mid-Holocene climates of the Americas: a dynamical response to changed seasonality

Simulations of the climatic response to midHolocene (6 ka BP) orbital forcing with two coupled ocean–atmosphere models (FOAM and CSM) show enhancement of monsoonal precipitation in parts of the American Southwest, Central America and northernmost South America during Northern Hemisphere summer. The enhanced onshore flow that brings precipitation into Central America is caused by a northward dis...

East Asian Monsoon controls on the inter-annual variability in precipitation isotope ratio in Japan

To elucidate the mechanism for how the East Asian Monsoon (EAM) variability have influenced the isotope proxy records in Japan, we explore the primary driver of variations of precipitation isotopes at multiple temporal scales (event, seasonal and inter-annual scales). Using a new 1-year record of the isotopic composition of event-based precipitation and continuous near-surface water vapor at Na...
